RaDiagnostiX: Reliable and accurate prostate diagnosis
06.03.2015
Our practice has recently started offering MRI examinations of the prostate as part of the RaDiagnostiX quality programme. We use a new procedure: the so-called multiparametric MRI (mpMRI). In this radiation-free examination in the MRI scanner, the most aggressive tumour foci in the prostate are precisely localised so that the urologist can then remove the tissue in a targeted manner. In addition, mpMRI can distinguish clinically irrelevant tumours from aggressive ones, thus helping to prevent surgical overtreatment and thus unpleasant consequences such as pain, impotence and incontinence.
The RaDiagnostiX programme was set up jointly by practices in the Radiology Network Germany in order to offer mpMRI with uniform quality standards and scientific support. Our radiologists were trained and certified in the methodology in collaboration with employees of the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. Close coordination with the urologists providing treatment is firmly anchored in the RaDiagnostiX - Prostate quality programme, meaning that quality-assured mpMRI offers the optimum diagnosis for many medical issues:
- Screening examination
- Suspected prostate cancer
- Treatment decision and planning
- Follow-up (active surveillance)
- Therapy monitoring
